    Where will you be working?

    This Assistant Design Engineer role will be within our water and wastewater capital project delivery team. Our teams deliver large-scale capital programmes aimed at keeping water infrastructure resilient for the long-term while protecting the environment. 

    What will you be doing?

    As part of the prestigious Southern Water contract, you will work under the supervision of a Lead Designer, managing and coordinating all activities and tasks within batch or scheme contracts to ensure the design of schemes/solutions within Pre-Tender, Investigation, Design, Construction and Completion stages.

    You will also ensure work is carried out in a productive and timely manner, maintaining a focus on minimising risk in all functions of Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality and Commercial aspects, having a focus on good customer service and creating long-lasting relationships with clients to encourage profitable repeat business to meet the MGW corporate objectives.

    A key element of the Assistant Design Engineer role will be to produce design drawings and construction packages to reflect the work that is to be delivered in accordance with the relevant Engineering Specification and all relevant Asset Standards or equivalent to the specific contract.

    Additional responsibilities:

    • Deliver investigation, design, construction and project completion activities in line with client requirements, company standards, national regulations and industry best practice.
    • Prepare, maintain and manage all project documentation, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timely completion of health & safety files and project records.
    • Collaborate with internal teams, clients, contractors and external stakeholders to ensure efficient, cost-effective project delivery from design through to construction.
    • Ensure full compliance with CDM regulations, health, safety and environmental standards, promoting sustainable and safe engineering solutions.
    • Develop and implement innovative construction methods, materials and safe systems of work, while identifying opportunities for efficiencies and project outperformance.
    • Provide technical support, reporting and customer-focused service, with strong attention to detail and effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.

    What you’ll bring

    • Degree educated in Engineering OR relevant equivalent.
    • Experience of using Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams.
    • Ability to demonstrate initiative to work on your own and as part of a team.
    • Have an understanding of or knowledge of water and wastewater systems including associated MEICAT equipment (desirable).
    • Experience of using AutoCAD 2D or GIS or Revit software.
    • Knowledge or understanding of CDM 2015 Regulations.
    • Awareness of Process Safety.
    • Good communication skills that can adapt to the audience (e.g. internal, clients, customers).
    • Understanding of network modelling software and application per client.
