Where will you be working?
As an organisation, there is little we don’t do and plenty to get involved in. Our Group Support roles are vital in making sure we can help over 11,000 people deliver essential infrastructure seamlessly across water, energy, transport and telecom.
The Procurement function reports to the Chief Financial Officer and supports the M Group Business by working collaboratively as one procurement group to accelerate sustainable benefits delivery, providing solutions that meet the needs of our businesses and clients, enhanced by technology and scalable for future growth.
Group Procurement is undergoing an exciting transformation journey, deploying best in class processes, ensuring an innovative, reliable and cost-efficient supply chain that can grow with us to support delivery of the overall M Group Strategy. The Senior Category Manager is a new role in the team.
What will you be doing?
Take ownership of the subcontract category strategy, developing and delivering a pipeline of value-driven initiatives that support business objectives. You'll identify opportunities to optimise spend, improve total cost of ownership and maximise value from the supply chain.
Lead strategic sourcing and supplier engagement activities, building long-term relationships with key subcontractors and leveraging M Group's buying power to deliver commercial benefits, supply chain efficiencies and sustainable cost savings.
Work closely with divisional Commercial and Procurement teams to improve visibility of subcontractor activity across the Group, encouraging collaboration, sharing market insights and supporting informed decision-making throughout project delivery.
Drive continuous improvement across subcontract procurement processes, creating and implementing standardised tools, templates and ways of working that simplify supplier management and support the wider Procurement transformation agenda.
Manage supplier performance and strategic relationships, including Group-owned suppliers, while leading and developing the Subcontract Category Manager. You'll champion innovation, sustainability and ESG priorities, ensuring procurement activities deliver both commercial value and long-term business success.
Skills & knowledge requirements.
- Proven experience in procurement and commercial roles within complex infrastructure or operational environments.
- Strong knowledge of subcontractor sourcing, supplier management and category strategy development.
- Commercially astute, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build strong stakeholder relationships and influence at all levels, including senior leadership.
- Proven leadership capability, with experience driving collaboration across teams and functions.
- Skilled negotiator with the ability to deliver commercially beneficial outcomes and drive consensus.
