What will you be doing?
As the Assistant Accountant, you will be responsible for supporting the finance team by delivering accurate and timely month-end processes, maintaining robust financial controls, and providing insightful overhead reporting and analysis. This role plays a key part in ensuring the integrity of financial information, supporting budget holders, and driving effective cost management across the business. You will:
- Produce and analyse overhead reports, monitoring expenditure against budgets and providing variance commentary.
- Support month-end processes, including journals, balance sheet reconciliations and management accounts preparation.
- Manage weekly and monthly revenue reporting, ensuring accurate reconciliations and financial data integrity.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, year-end activities and audit requirements.
- Build effective relationships with Finance colleagues and Plant & Fleet operational teams across the business.
- Maintain strong financial controls, ensuring accurate cost allocation, record keeping and compliance with accounting policies.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting, processes and ways of working across the finance function.
What you’ll bring
- AAT qualified or qualified by experience.
- Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar finance role.
- Strong Excel skills for summarising and presenting financial information.
- Good analytical skills and high attention to detail.
- Able to explain financial information in a simple, clear way.
- Organised, proactive and able to work to deadlines.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
