Working closely with the Operations Director, Director of Highways and Group Engineering Director, you will define and execute engineering delivery strategies that leverage the latest technologies, ensure effective resource planning, and deliver complex programmes safely, compliantly, on time and within budget.

Leading a multidisciplinary engineering function, you will be responsible for building a high-performing organisation capable of delivering a technology investment programme valued at approximately c.£150 million over the next 5 years, while supporting the continued growth of Telent's Highways business.

    What you’ll do:

    • Build trusted relationships with senior customer stakeholders, ensuring successful programme delivery and long-term strategic partnerships.
    • Lead the development of innovative engineering solutions and solution architectures that meet customer requirements, supporting both live projects and new business opportunities.
    • Collaborate with bid teams to develop compelling technical proposals and contribute to the continuous improvement of products, solutions and delivery methodologies.
    • Establish and maintain robust engineering governance, assurance frameworks, progress reporting and risk management processes.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant engineering standards, customer approval processes and product type approval requirements.
    • Develop and oversee comprehensive Verification and Validation (V&V) strategies to assure quality and performance.
    • Plan, manage and optimise engineering resources to deliver programmes effectively and efficiently.
    • Ensure engineering solutions incorporate environmental, sustainability and whole-life asset considerations, supporting both customer and organisational objectives.

    Who you are:

You are an experienced Engineering Leader with a strong track record of delivering complex technology and engineering programmes within the transport, highways or operational technology sectors.

You have successfully led multi-disciplinary engineering teams, built high-performing organisations and established collaborative relationships with customers, partners and suppliers to create a one-team delivery culture. You combine strategic thinking with strong technical credibility and are passionate about developing people while delivering outstanding engineering outcomes.

    Key Requirements:

    • Proven experience leading the engineering delivery of medium to large-scale technology or infrastructure programmes.
    • Demonstrable experience developing and managing testing, verification, validation and assurance activities that meet customer and end-user performance requirements.
    • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, engineering governance and lifecycle management.
    • Demonstrable experience of delivering the full engineering lifecycle for highly integrated Operational Technology systems, i.e. designing & delivering critical networks, data centres, cloud integration, security requirements and supporting application suites, that underpin mission critical services
    • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging senior customer, supplier and executive stakeholders.
    • Degree-qualified in Engineering or a related discipline (Electrical, Electronic, Software, Systems or Design Engineering), or equivalent professional experience.
    • Exceptional leadership, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to inspire teams and drive organisational performance.
