Where will you be working?
At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.
We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
This role will be within our Transmission & Renewables team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.
What will you be doing:
We’re recruiting for a Site Engineer (Civils) to work on our Electrical Transmission contract initially at Rotherham, but subsequently on various projects across the UK. You will be required to be on site for this role.
The Site Engineer is primarily responsible for the technical aspects of sections of projects of all types and sizes; resident on the projects and responsible for co-ordinating the resources allocated to them, to ensure that the designated sections of work are delivered in a safe and timely manner.
We're looking for someone with previous experience in site supervision of substation contracts, in particular at higher voltages (132kV and above) and ideally National Grid sites.
- Adequate reporting of Safety incidents and “near misses” both internally and externally as required to the Client.
- Planning, day-to-day coordination and management of Supervisors, Assistant Civils Site Engineers & sub-contractors.
- Regular liaison with Client’s site representatives and attendance at any Client and project meetings as required.
- To control costs and be aware of the financial status of the project.
- To undertake regular inspections of the work area to focus on site compliance with project designs, ensuring quality control is maintained. Check and review setting out of foundations.
- To undertake regular inspections of the work area to ensure health, safety and environmental compliance of site works.
- Monitoring and issuing of site permits.
- Production of Method Statements and Risk Assessments as required by Safety Regulations and/or Client.
- Provide the Project Manager with all information required to produce Contract Status Reports (or other reports required by Client).
- To provide well-documented information to support the Project Manager in submitting any project claims.
- Plan and coordinate required resources (labour, plant & materials) to carry out required projects.
- To determine material requirements and liaise with Procurement in a timely manner to ensure all materials are available to complete the project requirements.
- In accordance with our certification to the standards OHSAS 18001, ISO9001 and ISO 14001 each employee will comply with and contribute to the effective implementation of the current M Group policies.
- Responsibility for day-to-day Health and Safety matters of staff and sub-contractors working under your control on projects.
What you’ll bring
- Previous experience in site supervision of substation contracts, in particular at higher voltages (132kV and above) and ideally National Grid sites.
- Experience working alongside all civils trades such as steel fixers, joiners, concrete finishers, pilers and scaffolders, and have a working knowledge of both aspects
- Ideally be degree qualified in a relevant discipline.
- Full UK Driving licence
- Must have knowledge of Construction / Health & Safety Regulations.
- Experience will involve supervision of all technical aspects of civil construction in a site environment.
- Should have some experience of various types of foundation construction utilised in Transmission projects and should be conversant with setting out instruments and techniques.
- Will have some previous experience in the management of sub-contractors and the recording of measurement details to enable financial settlement.
- Experience of managing Staff and Subcontractors and will be required to liaise with Clients and third parties.
- Willingness to travel and stay away
